General Iron

Commercial: Scrap Metal Recycling
 Development Management Services

After 100 years of recycling metals in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, General Iron reached an agreement with the City of Chicago to cease operations by the end of 2020 and relocated their operations to an industrial site on the Southeast Side of Chicago. With plans to build an entirely new state-of-the-art metal shredding facility that incorporates the best available technology for pollution controls and water treatment, a General Contractor and design team were selected. However, after significant time and effort, it became apparent that the project could not be built within General Iron's budget and schedule. With time running out to meet the terms of its agreement with the City, JSA was engaged to lead an effort to replace the General Contractor, work with the team to finalize a design within their budgetary constraints, establish a permitting framework to meet its scheduling requirements and begin construction.
